ANCAV, Portugal’s National Association of Vehicle Dismantling Centres, has received an Honourable Mention for its Green Parts Project in the Circular Economy category of the 20|30 National Sustainability Award.

The award, promoted by Portuguese business newspaper Jornal de Negócios, recognises initiatives that support more sustainable business practices and contribute to the transition towards a circular economy.

For ANCAV, the distinction highlights the role of certified reused automotive parts in reducing waste, extending the lifecycle of vehicle components and supporting more responsible mobility.

Certification for reused parts

The Green Parts Project has been developed as a pioneering certification scheme for Portugal’s automotive recycling sector.

Through the programme, authorised Vehicle Dismantling Centres can certify reused parts recovered from end-of-life vehicles, provided they meet defined standards for quality, traceability and sustainability.

The initiative is designed to give the market greater confidence in reused parts, while helping dismantlers demonstrate the environmental and commercial value of professional vehicle recycling.

A milestone for vehicle dismantlers

ANCAV said the Honourable Mention represents an important milestone for the association and its project partners, reinforcing the importance of reuse as a practical circular economy solution.

By certifying parts recovered from ELVs, the scheme supports a more structured and transparent market for reused components, helping to reduce waste while encouraging repairers and consumers to consider certified alternatives to new parts.

The recognition also strengthens ANCAV’s broader objective of raising the profile of Vehicle Dismantling Centres and their contribution to environmental performance in the automotive sector.

Supporting a more sustainable automotive sector

ANCAV said it will continue working to promote good environmental practice, increase awareness of certified reused parts and demonstrate the importance of authorised dismantling centres in building a more sustainable automotive industry.

The association said the award was more than recognition of the project itself; it was a reinforcement of its ongoing commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and the future of vehicle recycling in Portugal.
