Csiam Launches Eco-Organisation for End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) Compliance and Management

Csiam has revealed its formation of an eco-organisation specifically dedicated to managing end-of-life vehicles (ELVs). This strategic move is aimed at enabling member manufacturers to fulfil the new extended producer responsibility (EPR) obligations that come into effect on January 1, 2024.

The International Automobile and Motorcycle Trade Union Chamber (Csiam), which currently encompasses 85 vehicle brands, has officially established this eco-organisation to address the requirements set forth by the Agec law.

The primary objective of this initiative is to bolster the collection, reuse, recycling, and recovery processes for end-of-life vehicles within French territories.

Athina Argyriou, deputy president and general director of Csiam, emphasised the association’s commitment to guide its members “towards ensuring a responsible and efficient approach to managing the end-of-life phase of all vehicles introduced into the French market.”

While the definitive roster of participating brands in this eco-organisation is pending finalization, Csiam has extended an invitation to all manufacturers interested in joining this collaborative effort.

The application for the eco-organisation’s approval is set to be submitted by year-end, with the governance framework to be established during the inaugural board of directors meeting scheduled for January 2024. Csiam members will collaborate with recycling networks such as Tracauto and Autoeco, alongside the Federations Federec and Mobilians, to execute this ambitious project.

It’s worth noting that the specifications outlining the criteria for eco-organisations and individual systems were disclosed towards the end of November.
