Van der Ven Auto’s is expanding its Venyard self-service recycling operation in the Netherlands, adding around 260 vehicle locations and increasing capacity to more than 1,500 vehicles. The investment responds to growing demand for affordable used parts while supporting greater reuse, improved stock availability and a more efficient circular automotive recycling model.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of automotive recycling and the circular economy, continuous operational scaling is no longer just an advantage; it is a necessity. At Van der Ven Auto’s, based in Roosendaal, the Netherlands, we have consistently invested in high-tech vehicle dismantling, sustainable parts recovery, and process innovation.
Today, the expansion of the Venyard, our ‘You Pick it Self Service ‘, marks another important milestone in that long-term strategy. By adding approximately 260 new vehicle locations, we have increased the yard’s capacity to more than 1,500 vehicles, further strengthening our position as one of the largest self-service automotive recycling facilities in the Benelux.
Scaling Up to Meet Demand
Since launching the Venyard in 2019, our goal has been to provide a transparent, safe, and affordable self-service concept for car enthusiasts, DIY mechanics, workshops, and professional traders from across Europe. While the majority of our visitors come from the Netherlands and Belgium, we also regularly welcome customers from countries including Germany, Poland, and many others, who travel to Roosendaal in search of hard-to-find automotive parts. Visitors can browse our live online inventory, locate a vehicle on-site, and remove the required parts themselves for a fixed, transparent price.
The addition of 260 vehicle locations is a direct response to the growing demand for affordable, circular mobility solutions. Most vehicles on the Venyard are approximately 17 years old or older, making them an increasingly valuable source of replacement parts. For many of these vehicles, original parts are no longer available through manufacturers, or if they are, they have become prohibitively expensive. By increasing the number of vehicles available, we provide customers with a broader selection of makes and models while improving stock rotation, ensuring the inventory remains fresh and continuously renewed. This expansion is supported by our nationwide logistics operation, including a specialized fleet of 45 car transporters that continuously collect end-of-life and salvage vehicles from across the Netherlands, providing a consistent supply for our dismantling operations.
A Decade of Modernization and Innovation
The expansion of the Venyard is part of a broader modernization programme that has transformed our facility into a highly efficient automotive recycling operation.
Our investments have focused on three strategic pillars:
Advanced Warehouse Automation
Our warehouse has been extensively optimized and expanded and now contains more than 80,000 certified, thoroughly tested, and ready-to-ship parts. These are linked to an intelligent online license plate lookup tool, allowing customers to quickly identify compatible replacement parts.
Industrial Efficiency & Environmental Performance
Continuous investments in specialized material handlers, high-capacity cranes, and advanced depollution equipment enable us to process incoming vehicles safely, efficiently, and with minimal environmental impact.
Working closely with Auto Recycling Nederland (ARN), we continue to contribute to the Dutch automotive recycling sector’s leading environmental performance. According to ARN’s latest published figures, the total recovery rate reached 98.8%, substantially exceeding the legal requirement of 95%. This demonstrates how continuous innovation and collaboration continue to strengthen the circular economy while maximizing the recovery of valuable raw materials.
Front-Office Optimization
Innovation also extends to the customer experience. We recently introduced a fully automated cash-handling system with closed smart cashboxes at the Venyard checkout.
While automated cash management is common in retail environments, its implementation within a high-volume self-service dismantling yard has reduced transaction times, enhanced on-site security, and allowed our counter staff to devote more time to personal customer service.
Looking Ahead
Today, Van der Ven Auto’s processes more than 40,000 vehicles annually. By combining one of the largest self-service dismantling yards in the region with a highly structured B2B parts operation, we connect industrial-scale efficiency with direct customer value.
As Europe’s vehicle fleet continues to age, access to quality used parts is becoming increasingly important. The expansion to more than 1,500 vehicle locations is another step in our long-term vision for sustainable automotive recycling. By making more reusable parts available, we help keep older vehicles safely and affordably on the road while extending the lifecycle of valuable automotive components.
At Van der Ven Auto’s, we believe the future of automotive recycling lies in combining scale, innovation, and accessibility. Through continued investment in our people, facilities, and technology, we remain committed to supporting the circular economy and helping shape the future of sustainable automotive recycling across Europe.
