ELVES has joined other European ELV compliance schemes as a founding member of the new ELV Forum, a non-profit group created to strengthen coordination on ELV policy. With the new ELV Regulation approaching, the Forum aims to give compliance schemes a clearer collective voice on implementation, communication and practical recycling outcomes.
ELVES, the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) compliance scheme in Ireland, and other European ELV compliance schemes, have come together recently to form a new organisation, the ELV Forum.
The ELV Forum is a non-profit association established to strengthen coordination at European and international level and enhance members’ contribution to the development and implementation of ELV policy.
With the pending adoption of the new ELV Regulation, the creation of the ELV Forum is a timely opportunity to formalise collaboration amongst European compliance schemes and other stakeholders.

The new ELV Regulation will bring Extended Producer Responsibilities in vehicle design and manufacturing, including minimum recycling content for some key materials. The Regulation will also broaden the scope of what is currently in place to include other vehicle types such as trucks, buses, trailers and certain L-category vehicles, as well as other changes aimed at improving the reuse and recycling of ELVs
The current mandated annual ELV recycling targets set at 95% for each member state are not set to change. From 2018, Ireland, with the support of ELVES, has met the ELV targets every year since the compliance scheme began operating.
