Initiated on January 17, 2024, by several Csiam manufacturers, the Recycle my vehicle association has garnered official recognition from public authorities, marking a significant milestone as the inaugural eco-organization within France’s end-of-life vehicle (ELV) sector.
Recently endorsed and formally acknowledged in the Official Journal on April 12, Recycle My Vehicle emerges as the pioneering eco-organization within the automotive realm in France. Established within the Csiam framework, it presently unites prominent manufacturers such as BMW, BRP, Ducati, Kawasaki, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Peugeot Motocycles, Porsche, Triumph, Volvo Cars, Smart, Yamaha, and Zero Motorcycles.
Under the leadership of Vincent Salimon, Chairman of the Management Board of BMW France, and the stewardship of Athina Argyriou, Recycle my vehicle is poised to facilitate member manufacturers in fulfilling their new circular economy obligations, as mandated by the extended producer responsibility (EPR) directive effective since January 1, 2024.
“Recycle my vehicle is also the first European eco-organization dedicated to the automotive sector, with the stated ambition of being the benchmark eco-organization on a European scale. Our objective is clear: to position ourselves as leaders for next European deadlines, showing the way towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly automotive industry”.
The eco-organization will undertake several pivotal missions, notably advocating for eco-design and prolonging the lifespan of automotive products. Moreover, it will spearhead initiatives to bolster waste collection and treatment endeavors, champion material recycling and recovery, and combat illicit ELV processing activities within France.
With financial backing from manufacturers, Recycle My Vehicle is poised to provide robust support to the ELV management sector. Notably, the association intends to finance the complimentary collection of ELVs for end-users and contribute to research and development ventures.
In France, approximately 1.3 million end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) are processed annually, while 2 million new vehicles enter the market. Against this backdrop, Recycle My Vehicle is steadfast in its commitment to achieving a target collection rate of 70% of ELVs by 2028.
