At the Equip’Auto trade show, Surplus Recycling Group, a leading European player in end-of-life vehicle recovery, production, and marketing of used spare parts, announced the opening of a new plant, “GSR Energy,” which is expected to be operational in the coming weeks. This new industrial unit is entirely dedicated to the processing and recovery of traction batteries and their derivatives from vehicles powered by new energy sources.

GSR Energy: A Pioneer in Battery Processing for All Types of Vehicles. Specialising in the processing of traction batteries and electronic components found in next-generation vehicles, GSR Energy can recover value from batteries from all types of vehicles, including scooters, two- and three-wheeled motorized vehicles, cars, vans, trucks, buses, and handling equipment.
After a complete assessment and diagnosis, several options can be considered for battery processing:
- Reconditioning
- Repair
- Remanufacturing
- Design of stationary or mobile power packs
- Mass production of products
- Pre-sorting of materials
- etc.
Regarding electronic components, GSR Energy offers various services, including the reprogramming of control units for embedded systems, as well as cloning and virginization services for parts such as engine or airbag control units, instrument clusters, and BSI (Built-in Systems Interface).
Impeccable quality and traceability for guaranteed trust. The Surplus Recyclage Group has anticipated regulatory changes, particularly the European “Batteries” regulation, which came into effect in France in August 2025. To meet the requirements of the industry and its partners (insurers, manufacturers, eco-organizations, etc.), each battery processed by GSR Energy is issued a “battery passport,” ensuring complete and rigorous product traceability. GSR Energy acts as a subcontractor for other companies within the Group, but also offers its services to external stakeholders, targeting professional repairers for reconditioned/remanufactured batteries, as well as installers/integrators for stationary power packs. Other development phases are being studied, particularly regarding the production and valorisation of black mass.

Laurent Hérail, President of the Surplus Recyclage Group, concludes:
“Mastering the processing of end-of-life vehicles and the production of reused parts, we are entering a new phase with the opening of GSR Energy. With 1.2 million end-of-life vehicles, including 50,000 electric or hybrid vehicles, expected by 2030, we must evolve our business towards new-generation vehicles and components to combine environmental responsibility and competitiveness.”
