The International Roundtable on Auto Recycling (IRT), which was due to take place in Hiroshima City, Japan at the end of October 2020 has been postponed to 2021.
The International Roundtable on Auto Recycling (IRT) brings together the leading international automotive recycler associations, industry officials, guest speakers and local auto recyclers to discuss the global auto recycling industry.
Previous IRT’s in Brussels, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Coffs Harbour, Quebec City, Liverpool, Phoenix, Kushiro, Malacca City, Niagara Falls, and Norwich have been a catalyst for the global recyclers to share information about emerging technical and regulatory trends, business opportunities, and to showcase local and industry best practices.
Each IRT is unique to the local association hosting it and previous IRTs can be reviewed here.
Held approximately every 16-18 months, and hosted by one of the founding associations, the IRT brings the peak national associations together to discuss the ever-changing world of auto recycling.
The next IRT was planned for the Hiroshima City, Japan from October 21 to 23, 2020 – this has been postponed to 2021. Check back for further details.
It was deemed that the travel and safety risks still inherent in the global pandemic are too great and we should err on the side of caution in the planning for this event.
The Japanese have offered to host an event in 2021, which the IRT committee are reviewing suitable dates at this time.
In the meantime, the committee has been making updates to the IRT website to accommodate the posting of information in areas of mutual concern (Communications, Research, Standards, Statistics, Education/Training, Other), and they welcome submissions to add to this collection.
Steve Fletcher, Managing Director of Automotive Recyclers Association of Canada (ARC), one of the organising associations of the IRT said:
Steve Fletcher
“After working with our Japanese colleagues to help deliver another successful IRT, we could not come up with scenarios that would encourage participation and continue to develop the IRT as a forum to exchange international ideas and connections.
We are pleased that JARA is working to host the next IRT in 2021. We are working with the other national associations to come up with dates that will work for everyone, and give time for the new realities of international travel. This will be the third Japanese hosted IRT and each one has steadily improved upon previous editions.
While the IRT brings the international community physically together every 18 months, we will continue the good work started at the last IRT in Norfolk to empower the IRT website to carry more and more information, so progress is made between IRTs.
The postponement of the IRT was the right decision and this gives us more time to plan and execute another valuable event.”
