Europe’s second-life EV battery market has supply and demand, but limited visibility between sellers and buyers. REBATTEX aims to bridge that gap by connecting battery inventory, buyer demand, diagnostics and traceability across borders, supported by a new European EV Battery Index providing aggregated data on prices, supply and market demand.

Europe does not have a shortage of reusable EV batteries, nor does it lack buyers for them. What is missing is a clear line of sight between the two.
A recycler in one country may have exactly the battery a workshop, insurer or energy-storage company needs elsewhere in Europe. The battery exists. The demand exists. But if neither side can see the other, there is no market.
Today, much of the second-life EV battery market is still operating in the dark. The information exists, but in separate silos. Dismantlers know what they have recovered. Workshops know what they need. Insurers see which vehicles cannot economically be repaired. Battery specialists understand condition and remaining capacity. Second-life buyers know which specifications they require.
Each holds a piece of the puzzle. Too rarely are those pieces connected.
The consequences are significant. A workshop may assume a replacement battery is unavailable when one exists elsewhere. An insurer may write off a vehicle because there is no visible replacement. A usable battery may remain in storage, or be recycled prematurely, because the right buyer never sees it.
A functioning market therefore needs more than batteries and buyers. It needs information to move between them.
This is the information infrastructure REBATTEX is building: connecting battery inventory with buyer demand across borders, while bringing listings, diagnostics, traceability and transaction processes together.
Transparency does not have to mean exposing commercially sensitive information. Sellers can retain control of inventory, pricing and customer relationships, while buyers search without revealing their purchasing strategies. Individual transactions remain private while aggregated market signals can benefit the wider industry.
The REBATTEX European EV Battery Index is designed to make some of those signals visible. It shares aggregated data on asking prices, battery characteristics, supply and buyer searches, while withholding data where samples are too small.
As participation grows, so does the value of the information. More sellers improve visibility of supply. More buyers reveal real demand. More diagnostic data reduces uncertainty around battery condition.
Better information creates a better market.
Starting this month, REBATTEX is making aggregated platform data publicly available through its European EV Battery Index, free to use and share with REBATTEX cited as the source. The first edition can be found at rebattex.com/european-battery-index.
The foundations of a true second-life EV battery market are already emerging across Europe. Now it is time to connect the dots.
Trace it. Trade it. Trust it.
