Japan Automotive Recyclers Alliance (JARA) explores cutting-edge technologies, celebrates high pass rates in recycling exams, and unveils initiatives for airbag recycling and sustainable practices.
As the automotive industry increasingly shifts towards electrification and software-defined vehicles, these technologies offer enhanced control over braking and steering. The advantages include improved precision, faster response times, and heightened safety measures. The integration of by-wire technology and software is deemed crucial for the progression of autonomous vehicles, despite ongoing challenges such as redundancy and cost considerations.
In a noteworthy achievement, the Japan ELV Recyclers Association (JAERA) proudly announced the outstanding results of the 2023 Recycling Technician Exam. Out of 257 applicants, an impressive 95% successfully passed the examination, highlighting the high level of expertise within the automotive recycling community.
The newsletter also sheds light on JARA’s initiatives, particularly focusing on airbag recycling and sustainable practices. Collaborative efforts involving ABT Corporation, Tokyo Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, and Refinverse Group are aimed at recycling airbags from end-of-life vehicles (ELVs). This joint initiative aims to transform used airbags into recycled nylon resin material, contributing significantly to sustainability efforts. Commercialization of this endeavor is expected in fiscal year 2024, with a verification test scheduled for November 2024.
Further emphasizing JARA’s commitment to awareness campaigns, a video production initiative featuring JARA Corporation President Kenichiro Yajima and JARA Group Chairman Junichiro Kawashima is highlighted in the newsletter. The discussions encompass various efforts undertaken in 2023, with a particular focus on expanding the linkage between the in-house developed “automobile total recycle system (ATRS)” and external functionalities. Additionally, the relocation of the head office and disaster response activities are detailed, showcasing the organization’s multifaceted approach.
The newsletter also provides insights into the sales trends of electrified vehicles and end-of-life vehicle (ELV) generation statistics. Notably, electrified vehicle sales experienced a substantial 23.2% increase in November 2023, marking a yearly rise for 15 consecutive months. Hybrid vehicle sales continued to exhibit growth, while electric vehicle sales saw a decline for the first time in three months. In tandem, ELV generation in October 2023 increased by 6.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, marking a third consecutive monthly increase.
These updates collectively underline the active engagement and progress within the automotive recycling industry in Japan. The focus on technological advancements, successful examinations, awareness campaigns, and collaborative sustainability efforts solidify JARA’s position as a key player in shaping the future of automotive recycling.
