In a move to promote sustainable development, the State has extended the obligation to inform customers about used parts to professionals in the two and three-wheel sector.

According to the Official Journal of July 16, 2024, all after-sales professionals in this field must inform their customers of the possibility of using parts from the circular economy for their vehicles’ maintenance and repair. This means that dealers and motorbike sellers must clearly communicate this option to drivers starting October 1. The procedure is outlined in Decree No. 2024-824 of July 16, 2024.

A “clear, visible, and legible from the outside” notice must inform customers about the option of choosing parts from the circular economy. The notice should list the categories of parts involved and the situations where the professional is not required to offer them. Additionally, all this information must be available on the establishment’s website, if it has one. Quotes must indicate that the supply of these parts is subject to availability, including a mention of the delivery time and the price of each item. The document should allow customers to clearly indicate their preference for these second-hand parts. If a second-hand part is not available, the professional must explain why this option is not possible. A copy of these documents must be kept by the professional for two years.

Apart from changes in quotes and invoicing, daily operations for professionals should remain largely the same. Professionals are already accustomed to offering used parts when available and relevant to the vehicle’s age, value, and the customer’s budget.
