New “Virtuous Recyclers” Label to Guide Insurers in Choosing Top Vehicle Recycling Centers

The SRA (Sécurité et Réparation Automobiles), the leading professional association representing car insurance companies in France, has unveiled a new label aimed at helping insurers select the most responsible and effective vehicle recycling centers, according to a recent article on LeLynx.fr.

Dubbed “Virtuous Recyclers,” the certification is designed to highlight end-of-life vehicle (ELV) centers with the strongest commitment to environmental sustainability and parts reuse.

A Tool for Responsible Insurance and Repair

Set to launch officially in June 2025, the “Virtuous Recyclers” label will distinguish ELV centers based on their performance in recycling and reusing vehicle components, a move expected to cut repair costs and reduce environmental impact. The label applies to facilities handling a wide range of vehicles, including:

  • Passenger cars
  • Vans
  • Motorcycles and scooters
  • Three-wheelers
  • Trucks
  • Agricultural vehicles
  • Public works equipment

Volunteer ELV centers will participate in pilot testing of the label this September and October, helping to finalize the evaluation process.

Evaluation Criteria Still Evolving

The SRA plans to assess centers using approximately ten criteria, several of which have already been defined. These include:

  • Volume of parts produced from the circular economy
  • Quality and traceability of recycled parts
  • Warranty and delivery standards
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Reconditioning and digital operations
  • Environmental and social responsibility initiatives

Labeling will be progressive, meaning centers can earn the certification based on ongoing improvements. According to SRA Director Rodolphe Pouvreau, the program is meant to be inclusive, with annual audits ensuring continuous development rather than exclusivity.

An Industry-Wide Shift Toward Sustainability

As insurers increasingly weigh environmental performance in their partnerships, the “Virtuous Recyclers” initiative represents a significant step in aligning car insurance practices with broader sustainability goals.

For policyholders, it also underscores the importance of comparing insurance options that reflect personal values. Resources like LeLynx.fr can help drivers find the insurer that best aligns with their expectations.
