Recirculate: EU-Funded Project aims to create innovative business models for repairing, reusing, and recycling second-life batteries

The Recirculate project, funded by the European Union with €4.9 million, aims to create innovative business models for repairing, reusing, and recycling second-life batteries. It addresses the key challenges faced by the European battery recycling sector and battery materials logistics. The project brings together eleven partners from various countries to tackle these challenges by utilizing advanced technologies such as AI for automated dismantling, smart logistics solutions for safe storage and transportation, and blockchain technology for tracking battery data and establishing a battery marketplace.

The project’s main objective is to enhance the end-of-life processes of batteries, including repair, reuse, remanufacture, and recycling. By leveraging a virtual marketplace, new circular business models will be developed, reducing costs, time, energy consumption, and environmental impact while maximizing the value of batteries.
