Renault wants to acquire Indra Automobile Recycling, a joint venture previously shared with Suez since 2008. According to the Competition Authority, Renault plans to gain control of the network of end-of-life vehicle (ELV) centers through its subsidiary; The Future is Neutral. This move reflects Renault’s growing ambitions in the field of automotive dismantling and recycling.

This move aligns with Renault’s growing focus on sustainability, as evidenced by the creation of its subsidiary, The Future is Neutral, in 2022. With a €500 million investment plan, the subsidiary is dedicated to innovations in recycling and resource recovery, underscoring Renault’s ambitions to lead in the circular economy.
Renault Strengthens its Hold on the Indra Network
By acquiring Indra, Renault will secure control over a network of 330 end-of-life vehicle (ELV) centers. This is particularly strategic as manufacturers face new requirements under France’s Agec law, which mandates extended producer responsibility (EPR). Companies are now obliged to ensure proper recycling and recovery of their products.
While most manufacturers have chosen to handle recycling individually, Renault has entrusted Indra with managing its system, helping the company meet regulatory targets for recycling, reuse, and recovery of materials. However, some industry players, like the Federation of Recycling Companies (Federec), have raised concerns that this system may lead to a monopolistic advantage for car manufacturers.
This acquisition will mark another milestone in Renault’s efforts to lead the automotive industry toward more sustainable and circular practices.
