SRA trials recycler label for motorcycle used parts

SRA is trialling a motorcycle-and-scooter version of its “Virtuous Recycler” label to increase the use of reused parts (PRE) in insurance repairs, where uptake is still below 2% of claims. The scheme aims to give insurers and workshops trusted recycler options, with an official launch expected in January 2026.

SRA (Automotive Safety and Repair) is adapting and trialling its “Virtuous Recycler” label for motorcycles and scooters, aiming to increase the use of reused parts (PRE – pièces de réemploi) in insurance-funded repairs. SRA says uptake remains low in the powered two-wheeler market compared with the car sector, despite an existing recycler supply base.

SRA wants to develop the use of reused parts in insurance repairs

The share of reused parts in insured repairs remains very limited. According to figures released by SRA, less than 2% of compensated claims involve at least one used part, significantly lower than current statistics for the automotive sector.

SRA argues the issue is not simply supply. Several recycling companies already operate in the two-wheeler market, including specialist motorcycle recyclers. As in the automotive sector, coverage is not comprehensive, but the supply base exists.

SRA also points to a behavioural gap between private and insurer-funded repairs. Using used parts is a long-standing habit among motorcyclists, particularly to maintain older machines or those with reduced value. However, “this acceptance is not the same when the insurer pays the bill”: policyholders and professionals still tend to prefer new parts. SRA’s goal is to shift that habit by making the use of PRE easier and more routine in claims-led repairs.

A tailored SRA label for two-wheeler recyclers

To establish a standard specific to two-wheeled vehicles, SRA is testing a dedicated version of its “Virtuous Recycler” label. A protocol is being finalised and adapted to the specific characteristics of motorcycles, scooters and other category L vehicles.

The objective mirrors the label’s intent in the automotive market: to distinguish the most committed and best-structured recyclers against defined criteria, and to make it easier for insurers and workshops to select operators that can deliver consistent quality and service, ultimately supporting wider use of parts from the circular economy.

Pilot sites and January 2026 launch target

SRA says the pilot programme at GAM Motos Pièces is continuing within the Surplus Recyclage group, and should soon expand to other players such as Accimoto and Capnor. The official launch of the two-wheeler version of the “Virtuous Recycler” label is expected in January 2026.
