Surplus Recyclage Group, based in Gaillac (Tarn), announces its strategic expansion into electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling. By 2025, the company will inaugurate GSR Energy, its subsidiary dedicated to the recycling and reconditioning of EV batteries, solidifying its commitment to sustainable practices and innovation.

With a distinguished focus on vehicle recycling encompassing cars, motorcycles, tractors, trucks, and campers, Surplus Recyclage has established itself as a used auto parts in Europe. Offering reconditioned parts at significantly reduced prices – 50 to 70% lower than new parts – and backed by a two-year warranty, the company has garnered acclaim for its commitment to affordability and quality.
Surplus Recyclage’s expansion into EV battery recycling marks a significant milestone in its journey toward environmental stewardship and technological advancement. The new venture will complement its existing entities: Surplus Autos, Surplus Motos, and Surplus Industries, each contributing to the company’s mission of sustainability and efficiency.
With a workforce of 220 employees and a turnover of 48 million euros in 2023, Surplus Recyclage is poised to revolutionize EV battery recycling in Europe. Through GSR Energy, the company aims to address emerging challenges posed by the proliferation of electric vehicles and contribute to the development of a circular economy.
The Gaillac company wants to anticipate the need and has decided to accelerate. “We are going to expand this activity with a new building of more than 2,000 m2. Vehicles create new problems that must be addressed today,” Laurent Hérail, director of Surplus Recyclage, told Entreprises Occitanie.
After the creation of GSR Energy, Hérail implemented the R&D strategy, but the regulatory constraints are heavy, and the entire environment of this recycling area is not yet mature. He said: “I am hopeful that the purchase of a building and that our extension will be completed in early 2025.”
Despite regulatory complexities and nascent market dynamics, Surplus Recyclage remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing EV battery recycling. With plans to expand its infrastructure with a new facility spanning over 2,000 square meters, the company is poised to meet the growing demand for sustainable recycling solutions.
As Surplus Recyclage continues to innovate and expand its footprint in the recycling industry, it reaffirms its position as a trailblazer in environmental sustainability and technological excellence.
