With 20 years of experience since its creation in 2005, the Surplus Recycling Group has positioned itself as a leading player in Europe in the sectors of end-of-life vehicle recovery, production, and marketing of used spare parts.

Located in the heart of the Occitanie region of France, the family-owned group has developed a comprehensive industrial complex comprising six factories dedicated to sustainable mobility on a site of over 30 hectares. Having invested €34 million of its own funds over the past ten years, the Surplus Recycling Group has modernized the sector, developed innovative industrial processes to recover value from all types of vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, trucks, agricultural and industrial equipment, and thus built a veritable empire dedicated to remanufactured parts and vehicles.

A key player in the circular economy, the Surplus Recycling Group demonstrates its visionary approach by anticipating, as early as 2010, key French regulatory changes, including the AGEC 2024 Law and the Batteries 2025 Regulation. This proactive approach allows the group to handle all types of vehicles, whether two-, three-, or four-wheeled. Furthermore, it provides a concrete solution to the requirement for repair professionals to offer remanufactured parts, establishing itself as a vital partner in sustainable mobility.

Transforming waste into resources

Collection, transport, depollution, dismantling, spare parts production, vehicle and equipment remanufacturing, and sorting of recyclable materials are at the heart of the Surplus Recycling Group’s business. With a 360-degree designed and fully internalized industrial activity, the group has acquired a processing capacity of more than 60,000 vehicles per year at its single complex based in Gaillac in the Tarn.

390,000 remanufactured spare parts are offered for sale daily, to both individuals and professionals. Consumers, repairers, manufacturers, insurers, and local authorities can securely access comprehensive catalogues of body parts, mechanical components, and electronic parts on the group’s three e-commerce websites, each specializing in a specific vehicle type: surplusautos.fr, surplusmotos.com, and surplus-industries.com. Remanufacturing used vehicles entirely using spare parts from the circular economy has been a reality within the group for three years. With this activity, the Surplus Recycling Group aims to demonstrate to industry professionals that all vehicles, whether light (2, 3, or 4 wheels) or heavy (trucks, agricultural tractors, handling equipment), can be repaired: from routine vehicle maintenance to the most complex repairs, including checks of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Two hundred checkpoints are carried out throughout the vehicle reconditioning phase before it is marketed.

Impeccable quality and traceability for the sake of trust.

Each part benefits from complete traceability, from its original vehicle to the end customer, including the damage assessment report. This transparency is essential for building trust with customers and partners, particularly insurers, who can then expand their use of new categories of remanufactured spare parts. Furthermore, all remanufactured parts and vehicles are guaranteed for up to two years.

Materials and parts that cannot be repaired or remanufactured are rigorously sorted by the group before being sent to dedicated recycling facilities, thus ensuring compliance with current environmental standards. Far from the image of traditional junkyards, Surplus Recyclage has industrialised its processes to ensure high-quality products comparable to new parts. The company relies on a demanding quality charter and certifications such as the Qualicert service standard. Committed to professionalizing the end-of-life vehicle recycling center industry, the Surplus Recyclage Group is currently testing the SRA “Virtuous Recyclers” label, which aims to become an industry standard, certifying environmental performance, quality, and traceability. It will also enable the expansion of remanufactured parts into new product categories.

Laurent Hérail

Laurent Hérail, President of the Surplus Recycling Group, emphasizes this philosophy:

“Convinced of the benefits of reusing rather than discarding, we are contributing to the development of a virtuous and sustainable production model for more sustainable and responsible mobility. Our ambition is to guarantee a safe and reliable used spare part for all professionals and consumers.”

The Surplus Recycling Group has ambitious goals for 2030, aiming to process 60,000 vehicles per year, produce 1.2 million spare parts, and industrialize the recycling of traction batteries from electric vehicles. To achieve this level of growth over the next five years, the Surplus Recycling Group will continue to invest in combining economic performance with environmental responsibility.
