Endowed with 14,000 euros in prizes for the winning projects, those that involve the material or energy recovery of a component, material or fraction that is currently being disposed of will be especially valued.
The Association for the Environmental Treatment of End-of-Use Vehicles, Sigrauto, has announced the fourth edition of its awards for innovation in recovery, with which it will reward projects that represent an improvement in the recovery of a component, material or fraction coming from vehicles at the end of their useful life or an improvement in the energy efficiency of processes.
An improvement in recovery is considered to exist when a treatment process is found that represents an improvement in the waste management hierarchy (preparation for reuse > recycling > energy recovery > disposal).
Likewise, an improvement in energy efficiency will be considered to have been achieved when the balance of all those elements that determine energy consumption before and after the start-up of the project returns a significant reduction in energy consumption.
Special consideration will be given to projects that involve some component, material or fraction that was being disposed of being recovered, either through energy recovery, recycling or preparation for reuse.
The awards are aimed at public research organizations, universities, public research centers, technology centers as well as companies in the sector of vehicle recovery at the end of their useful life, whether Authorized Vehicle Treatment Centers, fragmentation facilities or post-fragmentation or authorized managers for any of the waste generated in the treatment of end-of-use vehicles.
The deadline to submit a candidacy ends on March 15, 2024, and the Awards ceremony will take place within the framework of the 8th edition of the International Recovery and Recycling Fair (SRR) in Ifema (Madrid).
The evaluation of the candidatures will be carried out by a jury made up of members of the Sigrauto Board of Directors together with prestigious personalities in the world of recycling, sustainability, innovation and environmental communication, who will decide the 3 winning projects. The first prize is worth 10,000 euros; the second is worth 3,000 euros, and the third prize with 1,000 euros.
