The Future Is NEUTRAL: Leading the Automotive Circular Economy

The Future Is NEUTRAL positions itself as the first 360° circular economy company in the automotive world. Its name encapsulates its core ambition: to accompany the automotive sector towards neutrality in terms of its impact on natural resources. This forward-thinking initiative spans the entire automotive value chain, from procurement and production to end-of-life recycling. The company operates at industry scale and is already profitable.

The Remakers’ – remanufacturing power electronics

Driven by the mission to reduce the material footprint of the automotive industry, The Future Is NEUTRAL focuses on four strategic priorities:

  1. Extend the lifespan of vehicles by providing repair solutions, reused or remanufactured parts.
  2. Reduce the automotive waste by collecting, treating and valorizing end-of-life vehicles and production scraps, with the aim of reintegrating them into the automotive cycle.
  3. Encourage the integration of more recycled materials in the production of the new cars by supplying closed-loop automotive grade recycled materials, such as plastics, platinoids or copper.
  4. Accelerate education, research, and innovation in circular economy practices.

The Future Is Neutral proposes a fully integrated platform of solutions that addresses all automotive stakeholders: car manufacturers, suppliers, after-sales networks, repair shops, insurers and individuals.

Top-notch expertise at the service of the entire automotive industry

The company benefits from the complementary expertise of its two shareholders: Renault Group (80%) in the automotive sector and SUEZ (20%) in the waste management sector. This partnership brings together over 75 years of combined experience in the automotive and recycling industries, enabling The Future Is NEUTRAL to operate with industrial-scale capabilities and profitability from the outset.

The Future Is NEUTRAL relies on the specialized expertise of several key subsidiaries:

  • THE REMAKERS: pioneers in automotive remanufacturing since 1949, and European leader in remanufactured automotive parts, with more than 11,000 references, mechanical, electronic, and electric, including the first offer in Europe for electric vehicles. It provides an alternative to original parts, with equivalent quality and competitive pricing, thanks to a proven industrial process and recognized expertise in reverse engineering. Located at the Flins Refactory (France), the company delivers 350,000 parts per year.
  • GAIA: a pioneer in the automotive circular economy since 1998, GAIA responds with agility and pragmatism to a variety of client issues by developing customized solutions at different levels of the value chain: from battery repair to material recycling from end-of-life vehicles and the revalorization of parts stocks. The company is recognized by its clients for its high-quality, and tailored service. In 2024, the company recycled 3,200 tons of automotive materials in a closed-loop and repaired 3,000 batteries.
  • INDRA: France’s largest end-of-life treatment network, with over 350 approved centers. INDRA dismantles around 400,000 end-of-life vehicles per year. The company is also the first certified operator under France’s AGEC law (Individual System for car manufacturers).
  • BOONE COMENOR METALIMPEX: a global leader in metal scrap recycling with 1.8 million tons of industrial scrap processed in 2024, for reintegration into the production cycle.

Jean-Philippe Bahuaud

Jean-Philippe Bahuaud, CEO of The Future Is NEUTRAL, said:

“We do this not because we should, but because we can. At the root of our duty, we find the industry’s need to secure access to materials like steel, aluminium, platinum or copper to keep assembling vehicles in Europe, in a responsible manner. We also find the need to provide competitive offerings to auto users in Europe through reused or remanufactured parts of quality and cheaper for the end consumer. Finally, there is a need to enhance the auto industry’s environmental footprint through scaling of local closed-loop recycling solutions, from car to car.”
