Volkswagen Group France Secures Approval for Individual Vehicle Recycling System

Volkswagen Group France is among the pioneers in addressing waste recycling associated with automotive after-sales services in the country. The group’s dealer network has long been supported by strong partnerships with Autoeco, a traceability platform, and the Tracauto network of recyclers. Responding to the Agec law of February 2020, Volkswagen Group France teamed up with MAN Truck & Bus France to formally seek approval for an individual system. This system aims to enable the group to exercise extended producer responsibility for end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), covering brands such as Audi, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Volkswagen, and MAN TGE models. Following their joint application in January, the manufacturers received official approval in July 2024.

Taking Responsibility for Vehicle Recycling

The Agec law focuses on improving the collection and recycling of end-of-life vehicles while combating illegal practices in the sector. With its newly approved individual system, Volkswagen Group France has taken a significant step to manage this process, which it began addressing over two decades ago. Xavier Chardon, Chairman of the Board at Volkswagen Group France, expressed gratitude for the approval, stating, “The approval granted to Volkswagen Group France underscores the seriousness and robustness of our vision for managing end-of-life vehicles. We appreciate the trust placed in us by the French authorities to establish this new organization, which aligns with our environmental strategy.”

The individual system will leverage the expertise of partner ELV centers to promote the circular economy.

Manufacturer-Approved ELV Centers

Aymeric Jobelot, head of the environment and energy program at Volkswagen Group France, emphasized the significance of this approval, saying:

“This approval represents the starting point of a new story with new ambitions, new objectives. Our individual system is part of the continuity of relations with our ELV Center partners with a strong desire to develop them in the years to come.”

To facilitate this process, the brands involved are engaging with vehicle owners and interested ELV centers through a dedicated platform. This platform, managed by Tracauto, is designed to address the illegal sector and ensure “administrative management and recycling performance in line with regulatory expectations.” The official approval was published in the Official Journal on July 6, 2024.
