Reviving Global Connections – IRT Webinar Recap

On February 15th, the International Roundtable on Automotive Recycling (IRT) reinvigorated its mission with a dynamic webinar, gathering 27 esteemed participants. Beyond discussing the organization’s future, attendees were brought up to speed on industry developments from diverse corners of the globe.

Reviving Global Connections - IRT Webinar Recap pEstablished to unite leading international automotive recycler associations, industry officials, and local recyclers worldwide, the IRT has historically convened pivotal events, fostering global discourse. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted its activities, leading to a period of dormancy. The recent webinar, bolstered by a revamped webpage, marked a pivotal moment to reset the IRT and reunite the global auto recycling community.

Under the stewardship of Steve Fletcher from the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC), attendees were privy to insights from auto recycling associations spanning Japan, the USA, Poland, Canada, Australia, and Malaysia. Each region highlighted its unique challenges while sharing promising research and solutions. Central to the IRT’s ethos is the exchange of industry insights and mutual support among organizations, a sentiment echoed by Haydn Davies, editor of Auto Recycling World, who, alongside Steve Fletcher, spearheads the IRT’s resurgence.

While time constraints limited participant interaction during the webinar, avenues for engagement will expand in future events. Discussions encompassed the IRT’s future trajectory, particularly in leveraging its website in collaboration with Auto Recycling World. Additionally, a prevalent theme was the emerging challenges posed by electric vehicle recycling, prompting plans for the next webinar to delve deeper into this crucial topic.

Renowned for bridging global perspectives on auto recycling, the IRT welcomes all individuals and entities with an interest in vehicle recycling to join its ranks. Interested parties are encouraged to sign up for updates and participation in forthcoming webinars, ensuring their involvement in shaping the future of automotive recycling on a global scale.
